OF THE IUA
6b. Forma Orbis Romani (FOR) |
|
|
The Forma Orbis Romani is a project of the University of Rome I ('La Sapienza') and the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (National Research Council) ; it is directed by P. Sommella. The project has as its aim the study and publication of discoveries in Italy of new evidence for the history of centres of ancient civilization, both those now lost and those that still survive. Within this framework, 37 volumes have so far been published, with maps on the scale of 1:25,000 or 1:50,000 ; the topographical study of archaelogical material from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages is accompanied by full documentation in photographs and detailed drawings. The
Project was adopted by the UAI in 1922 on the initiative of the Accademia
Nazionale dei Lincei. |
