PROJECTS OF THE IUA

52. Clavis Monumentorum Litterarum Bohemiae (CMLB)

The project was devised by the Institute of Classical Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. It aims, with international collaboration, to establish an electronic database for interdisciplinary research into the Latin and vernacular literature of the lands associated by their history with the Crown of Bohemia, namely Bohemia, Moravia, Lusatia and Silesia. The material to be included, at a projected rate of 24,000 items per year, consists of some 6,000 manuscripts and 60,000 printed books, dating from the earliest period in the tenth century to about 1800. The entries will give descriptions in computer-oriented form of the books and other writings concerned, with digitalized images of title-pages and illustrations, and short biographies of authors ; access by CD-Rom will ensure that the Clavis is truly a key to a swift and painless entry into the literary and cultural life of Bohemia.

The project was adopted by the UAI in Category C in 1995, on the initiative of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
