|
Specialists in most ancient civilizations of Europe, North Africa and Western Asia should find it indispensable, as should historical cartographers and archaeologists. Both the Atlas and the Directory will be priced to encourage their widest possible circulation and use, and the computer will allow infinite adaptation and revision of the materials. To guarantee that the mapping maintain and extend its fondamental contribution to the study of classic antiquity, a permanent Ancient World Mapping Center has been created at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The Atlas of the Greek and Roman World project complements and extends the Tabula Imperii Romani (VIa) and the Forma Orbis Romani (VIb). Sponsored by the American Philological Association. The project was adopted by the UAI in 1993 in Category C, on the initiative of the American Council of Leamed Societies. Director : R.J.A. Talbert 1988-2000.
