PROJECTS OF THE IUA

3. Works of Grotius

Working under the supervision of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences), the staff of the Department of Renaissance Studies of the Constantijn Huygens Institute are preparing critical editions of the published and unpublished writings of the 17th century Dutch jurist, philologist, theologian and statesman Hugo Grotius. His correspondence will appear in an unabridged and annotated edition of all the letters written by Grotius or addressed to him, some 7,800 in all : so far 14 volumes have been published. The poetical works are being treated in the same way (seven volumes have appeared). In the near future, a number of important theological works will also be edited or re-edited : of these, two volumes have already appeared.

The project was adopted in 1920 by the UAI as a Category C project.
