PROJECTS OF THE IUA 22. Fontes Historiae Africanae (FHA) |
|
The object of the Fontes Historiae Africanae is to promote the publication of a corpus of written sources for the history of sub-Saharan Africa, in pre-colonial times. Several sub-series have been set up, grouping publications under the principal languages or language groups of the source materials. The Series Arabica has published nine volumes to date, the Series Aethiopica one volume and the Series Varia seven volumes. In most cases the text in the original language is published together with a translation into either English or French. Publication has also begun of a series entitled Subsidia Bibliographica of which one volume has been published. National committees have been set up in Great Britain, Israel, Ghana, the Sudan, Norway, and Denmark. The project was adopted by the UAI in 1962 on the initiative of the CIPSH. It was reorganized at the request of the British Academy in 1972. Category A. Directors : J.O. Hunwick 1972-1985, C.F. Beckingham 1986-1996, V.
