The International Union of Academies (uai) is aware of the efforts being made by unesco, the Council of Europe and the European Commission towards the protection, conservation and rehabilitation of monuments in some Balkan countries and in Cyprus.

Since it is concerned with all material and immaterial monuments of the past (written sources, archeological sites, works of art or buildings), it wishes to add its voice to insist that all such carriers of historical memory must be preserved in their original and authentic form.

It urges the active involvement and collaboration of all countries that might supply expertise or material assistance.
