The session begins at 9.15 a.m.

Following the roll call, 74 votes are spread among 48 delegates.

The agenda is approved.

  1. APPROVAL OF REPORTS

The Assembly successively approves :

  1. Opening session report (May 24), including Mr Van de Velde’s precise request ;
  2. Internal Affairs Commission report (24 May) ;
  3. the conclusions from the Commission in charge of the applications of the new members presented by Mr Smiraglia, are accepted.
  4. As effective member: the Academia paraguaya de la Historia ,already corresponding member ;

    As corresponding member: the Sciences Academy of Albania, over four years (2005-2009). On behalf of the Academy of Tirana, Mr Mansaka expresses his thanks to the General Assembly.

  5. External Affairs Commission report (May 25): conclusions to be carefully examined by the Steering Committee ;
  6. Ad hoc Committee reports concerning the new projects Encyclopaedia of Indian Poetics, Hobogirin, Justi Lipsi Epistolae, Europa humanistica*, Papyrus-Archives, Edition and Studies , Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard*. These projects will be successively classified under the numbers 68, 69,70,71,72,73.
  7. More information is requested from Mr Yinanç regarding the new project Culture and Society in the Caucasus during the Ottoman Empire: sources and documents.

  8. Finances and Accounts report ((26 May).
  9. Internal Affairs Commission report(26 May) including Messrs Almagro Gorbea, Dias Farinha, Steel, Braakhuis and Paravicini Bagliani’ s comments.
  10. Scholarly sessions reports. Some clarification and or modification are brought into the following reports : Corpus Vitrearum (by Mrs Caviness), Language Atlas of the Pacific Area (by Mr Pottier), Corpus Iuris Sanscriticum (by Mr Larivière), Clavis Monumentorum Litterarum Bohemiae (by Mrs Pawliková), Histoire comparée des Littératures (by Mr Jodogne) and Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum (by Mr Sims-Williams).

The Bureau is requested to proceed to a new classification of all the projects.

  3. VOTE ON A MOTION
  4. A motion presented by Mr Lavas and concerning the protection of the cultural inheritage of the Balkans was forwarded by Mrs Caviness ; further proposals from Messrs Conomis and Kozlowski are accepted. The motion is unanimously carried.

  5. ADOPTION OF PROPOSAL OF AMENDMENTS TO THE STATUTES
  6. The new Statutes are unanimously adopted by the General Assembly. The new document will be forwarded to the iua legal adviser.

  7. ELECTION TO THE BUREAU
  8. Mrs Pawliková and Mr Dias Farinha’s mandates are vacant. The Assembly elects Mrs Lise Hannestad and Mr Gregory Bongard-Levin. They will be on the board until the 82nd session, in 2008.

  9. PLACES AND DATES OF THE FOLLOWING SESSIONS
  10. The 80th Session will take place in the Palace of the Academies in Brussels, 29 May-4 June 2006.

    The 81st Session will be held in Norway, Oslo , 1-6 June 2007.

    The 82nd Session will be hosted by the Sahitya Akademi in India, in 2008. Due to climatic reasons this session will be scheduled in February.

  11. DATES AND PLACES OF THE FOLLOWING BUREAU
  12. The Steering Committee will meet in Ottawa at the Royal Society of Canada, 26-29 November 2005. The Bureau will have its annual session in Paris at the Institut de France, 23-24 February 2006.

  13. CLOSING OF THE SESSION

The President heartily thanks the T ürk Tarih Kurumu for its generous invitation as well as the Deputy Secretary General for the organisation of the Session. This latter wishes these thanks be also conveyed to his colleagues, Mrs Françoise Thomas and Mr Serge Alexandre.
